Rules

In online Pai Gow Poker the object of the game is to build two poker hands that beat the two poker hands the Dealer is dealt. A standard 52 card deck, plus one Joker is used. The Joker is wild under certain circumstances.

The Player receives seven cards face up. The Dealer seven cards face down. From the cards the Player is dealt he/she arranges two separate poker hands, a small hand of two cards and a large hand of five cards. The two card hand is referred to as the low hand. The five card hand is referred to as the high hand. Once the Player has finished arranging his /her cards the Dealer displays his cards and arranges his own high and low hands. When the game is played in double hand mode the Player is allowed to arrange all of his hands before the Dealer's turn.

If each Player hand is stronger than the corresponding Dealer hand (ie. low hand vs low hand, high hand vs. high hand) the Player wins. If they are both weaker he/she loses. If the player wins one hand, but loses the other this is considered a tie and the Player is returned his/her wager. As per standard Pai Gow rules when the player wins he receives an amount equal to his wager less a 5% House commission.

Low Hand:

Since this hand is constructed using only two cards the strongest poker hand that the Player can build from it is two Aces. The Joker cannot be used as a wild card in the low hand to complete a pair.

High Hand:

Being composed of five cards the possible combinations for the high hand are those of a standard poker hand.

Joker:

The Joker is wild only when used in Straights, Flushes and Straight Flushes. When used in Straights or a Straight Flush the Joker becomes the value and suit of the card needed to complete the Straight or Straight Flush.

It cannot be used to complete a pair, three of a kind, or four of a kind, except when the other cards are Aces. If used alone the Joker is also an Ace.

Foul Hand

Both hands must be arranged so that the low hand is weaker than the high hand. A Foul Hand occurs when the Player's cards are arranged so that the low hand is stronger than the high hand. In a land-based game this would result in the Player losing his/her wager. In online Pai Gow Poker the game displays an error message and allows the Player to rearrange his/her hand until the low hand is weaker than the high hand.
